‘화중왕 花中王, 화왕 花王, 꽃의 왕’으로 불리는 모란은

예로부터 부귀와 영화를 상징하여 많은 예술의 소재로 사랑받았습니다.

이러한 의미 덕분에 궁중은 물론 일반 서민들의 가정에서도 널리 사랑받아 화조화와 장식화에 많이 사용되었습니다.

현재 전하는 우리나라의 작품은 대부분 조선 시대에 제작된 것이지만, 삼국 시대부터 그려지기 시작했다고 합니다.

조선 시대에는 화려하게 채색된 모란도 병풍이 궁중 행사와 국가 의례에 사용되었는데,

이러한 궁중 그림을 모방한 민화가 민간에서도 많이 그려졌습니다.

예로부터 사람들은 벽사와 길상의 주제들이 그려진 그림을 서로 선물하고,

집에 걸어두어 소망하는 것이 이루어지기를 기원했다고 합니다.

‘모란도 Morando’ 포스터는 궁중 행사에 사용되었던 ‘모란도 병풍’에서 영감을 얻어 디자인되었습니다.

평소 생활 공간을 장식하고 행사에 사용된 병풍으로,

부귀와 영화를 상징하는 꽃의 왕 ‘모란’, 장수를 의미하는 변치 않는 모습의 ‘괴석’이 함께 그려진 그림입니다.

The peony, also known as ‘King of Flowers’, has been loved as a subject of art since ancient times, symbolizing wealth and prosperity.

Thanks to its symbolic meaning, it was widely used for ‘Flower-and-bird painting’ and ‘Decorations painting’ in the royal palace as well as in the homes of ordinary people.

Most of the Korean folk paintings that have been handed down to us today were produced during the Joseon Dynasty, but they are said to have been painted since the Three Kingdoms period. During the Joseon Dynasty, brightly colored peony folding screens were used in royal ceremonies and state rituals, and folk paintings imitating these palace paintings were also widely produced.

Since ancient times, people have given each other painting defeating evil(Byeoksa) and auspicious signs(Gilsang) as gifts, and hung them in their homes, hoping that their wishes would come true.

The 'Morando' poster is inspired by the ‘Eight-Fold Screen of Peonies and Rocks’ that was used in royal ceremonies. It features ‘Peony’, the king of flowers symbolizing wealth and prosperity, and ‘Oddly-shaped Stone’ representing longevity.
